Step 1- Cut your 2×8 wood piece to desired length based on what your eye tells you the right relationship is in proportion to the height of your baluster.
Many times I do hunt for my Mercedes car parts in the Mercedes junkyard parts and I have not been disappointed at all. Instead of having to dig deep in my wallet, I bag a bargain in this sort of places. The point is that, there are certain car parts that never go out of fashion.
Before you remove the bed, either off of a truck at the accepting junk cars or off of your personal truck, there are a few things you need to do first. Unbolt the gas cap and line first. Almost every truck has the fuel access running into the bed of the truck, so that is where you typically start first. After that, you need to remove the grounding strap that goes from the cab of the truck to the bed. Both of these items are easy to remove. As well, you need to disconnect the light from the back of the truck bed. The lights should have some quick disconnect places so that they can be disconnected with little effort.
Only call the salvage yard as a last resort. Salvage yards are only willing to give you the minimum for your junk car. For obvious reasons. They receive calls all the time from people that want to get rid of their cars for a buck. You are no different. They are in the position to make the rules.

I asked their buying agent to bring them over so I could interview them and to explain this business to them. In 3 minutes it was clear that they should not even consider this business. We spent the balance of the meeting talking about the businesses they had looked at and the pros and cons of each. I gave them my honest suggestions about each from their description. They thanked me and left.
